A beginner

Please bear with me as I am new to blogging.  It's very intimidating!  It will probably take me a while to figure out what I'm doing.   But I will begin by telling you, I am a quilter and most of the time I will be blogging about quilting.

I have been quilting since 1988.  My first quilt was tied.  It was commissioned by a customer through my then alteration business.  And like so many of us say, "the rest was history".  Sewing clothes, altering clothes never gonna happen again.  I was hooked.

I've been married for 44 years. We have two daughters and 4 grandchildren, ages 10 months to 8 years.  My oldest daughter is also a quilter.

My paternal Grandmother, Gladys, was a quilter. I didn't know this but was fascinated by it.  I never saw her quilt at anytime before she passed away.  For years my Mother wanted her orange and white quilt.  No way was Grandma Gladys going to part with it.  Until....when they retired from their little restaurant, The Shady Nook, and moved into a senior apartment did this change.  She wanted Priscilla tie backs for their living room windows.  Well, it just so happened that my mother had a pair that we took down from our house after she made new draperies and the orange and white quilt came to live at our house.  No we never got to use it, but it had a good home and was cared for.  Now the quilt has a new home and I love it dearly.  So there was quilting in the family and I just happen to fall into the sweet world of quilting.

Right now I am working on a Grandmother's Flower Garden that I was commissioned to finish.  It is a wonderful quilt.  I'm almost done quilting the flowers and will need to decide what to quilt on the outside.  Very unusual way to assemble the pieces, in a circle.  I had to ask for ideas on how to work it into a square or rectangular quilt.  One of my guild friends suggested appliqueing it to a backing and then trim out behind the flowers.  Worked great and now they are almost finished.  Then on to a wool quilt of a friend who ask for it to be repaired.  Sorry to say it won't be as large as the original because so many of the wool squares raveled and could not be saved, but I'll do my best.

This past Saturday I went on a day sewing camp with quilting friends.  I couldn't go the whole retreat but could make one day and it was soooo worth the trip.  Am working on the little ninepatch from Crazy Mom Quilts, and got seven more of the 396 done.  It's one of those pick up, put down, pick up, put down projects and I love it!  And the last two blocks of my Fabric Fanatics BOM done, then started the border blocks.  Spent a good time with quilting friends and enjoyed a great day! I follow several blogs and love to see what others are working on and doing out there in the quilt world.  One of my favorite sites is Temecula Quilt Co.  Oh, they are sooooo dangerous!  And Bonnie Hunter, wow, wish I had the energy that woman has.  Love her patterns and use up those scraps!

So I hope to figure out this blogging thing and be able to post pictures as time goes on.  Thanks for letting me join the blog world.

Quilt On!!
